The new picture palace is located in Durlach, the largest district of Karlsruhe, on the edge of the historic old town. The intersection of two streets (Gymnasiumstraße and Badener Straße) and the tram line with a stop right on the site creates an intriguing triangular geometry. The design embraces this strong form and offers a high spatial and sensory quality. On the ground floor, the building features strong pillars that represent the urban context and welcome pedestrians. Above, the facade is fully enclosed to create the necessary conditions for dark rooms. It houses two screening halls for showing films. The primary spaces have coffered ceilings to emphasize their importance and conceal the technical equipment.
