On the Edge
Somewhere in the mountains

Ready-mades can be found everywhere around the daily life. They are elements prefabricated for immediate use. The artist is changing its perspective and use by appropriation of the physical object as it is, but depriving it of its usual function.
The aim of this short exercise was to design a biwak that proves the concept of a ready-made. The inspiration of the ready-made was the ''Ökokiste''. It is a foldable, lightweight and stackable box. Thus people can transport them easily to the site. While assembling them, they get filled with the material that is locally available - in the case of the mountains snow. This works as basic insulation and structural weight. The boxes get stacked into the ground by a 45 degree rotation. The biwak gets embedded into its environment, generates a structural roof and references to the mountains. It can inhabite two people and it serves as a shelter to protect them from the surroundings.
